SELMA AKGÜN
The artist was born in 1946 in Edremit Where She studied her primary, secondary and high school then She started her studies in the Faculty of Political Science at A.Ü. but did not complete it. She then graduated from A.Ü. Faculty of Language, History and Geography Department of French Language and Literature.
Her subject, Which She was studying, was “History and Western Arts” at A.Ü. because of her great interest in art. Her uncle, Celal Yetkin, being a painter, helped her to take up drawing and painting.
She expresses her emotions with naive components.In the competition of “Woman Artists in Turkey”, (1998, 2000 and 2002), in the Izmir branch, she attended the show with herthree painting, which were greatly appreciated and won her the “Honour Certificate”.
Her painting, “Hasat”, was bought by the Balıkesir Government and displayed in the Government Art Museum, recently founded in that period. Another painting, “Pazaryeri” was displayed at the Edremit Municipality collection. The third painting, “Gokkusagi”, was shown at the art gallery of Vakıflar Bankası, she has a number of paintings in private collections.
The artist has participated in many group exhibitions in Izmir, Istanbul, Ankara ve Balıkesir. She has hadfive solo exhibitions. At one point she worked with the Fahir Aksoy Group and is continueing her work in her own workshop now.
